Daisy Ridley, Sosie Bacon and Simon Rex will star in “Get Rid of It,” a supernatural road-trip horror film from director Ry Russo-Young, which goes to international buyers at the American Film Market this week.
Ridley plays Harper, who learns she is pregnant after a one-night stand with a drifter named Miller, played by Rex. Harper sets out across the country with her sister Jessie, played by Bacon. The trip turns dangerous when the sisters begin to suspect the unborn child is not human. Gemma Holdway wrote the screenplay.
Upgrade, CAA Media Finance and Range Select are introducing the project to buyers. Filming is set to start in early 2027. David Lancaster, who earned a best picture nomination for “Whiplash” and also produced “Nightcrawler” and “Drive,” is producing.
Russo-Young described the material as “propulsive and playful,” saying its strength lies in a clear point of view and the “heart beneath the horror.”
The film continues a run of darker work for Ridley, who spent the past decade defined by Rey in the “Star Wars” sequel trilogy. She starred in the zombie thriller “We Bury the Dead,” from director Zak Hilditch, and is set to appear opposite Johnny Depp in Ti West’s “Ebenezer,” a new take on “A Christmas Carol.” She also played Channel swimmer Gertrude Ederle in “Young Woman and the Sea.”
Her future with Lucasfilm remains unsettled. A standalone Rey film about rebuilding the Jedi Order, linked to director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, has gone through repeated development changes. Ridley suggested earlier this year that news might not come until 2027. Recent reports say Lucasfilm is giving priority to other projects, including a new trilogy from Simon Kinberg, and her involvement in those films has not been confirmed.
Bacon built her horror credentials as the lead of “Smile,” and she has also joined Nikolaj Coster-Waldau in “The Black Tapes,” an MGM+ supernatural series based on the podcast of the same name.
No other cast members, distributors or release plans have been announced.
