The Last of Us TV series, adapted from the popular video game franchise, is set to expand beyond the second season, according to showrunner Craig Mazin.
Mazin, who is working on the adaptation alongside the director of the video games, Neil Druckmann, hinted at the show’s promising future during a recent NAB show in Las Vegas.
“We plan to do it for more than one new season. We’ll be around for a while,” Mazin teased, suggesting that the show’s creators have a lot more in store for viewers.
While the first season of the show covered the story of The Last of Us Part I, the second season will focus on The Last of Us Part II.
Although the upcoming season will not be able to replicate the success of the first season in selling out the video game, Mazin’s comments suggest that the show will continue to explore the rich world and characters of The Last of Us franchise.
The success of the first season has paved the way for the creators to develop broader storylines and explore the depths of the two video game chapters. This suggests that viewers can look forward to an even more immersive experience in the coming seasons.
It remains to be seen how closely the TV series will follow the storyline of the video games, but one thing is clear: The Last of Us TV series has a bright future ahead beyond the launch of Season 2.
Fans can expect to be captivated by the post-apocalyptic world and the complex characters of The Last of Us franchise for many seasons to come.
