“The Last of Us,” a series that quickly gained a colossal following after its debut in February 2023, soon confirmed its extension into a second season the following month.

The series creators, Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin, revealed that the narrative from the second part of the game, which forms the basis for subsequent episodes, is both broad and detailed. These remarks sparked joy among fans, as it hinted at the possibility of the series spanning more than just a single season.

However, recent revelations have somewhat clouded the initial enthusiastic predictions. In an interview with Deadline, HBO producer Francesa Orsi opened up about the ongoing discussions concerning the optimal conclusion for the series. Most notably, she pointed out that the existence of a third season remains uncertain at this point.

Orsi explained, “I think Craig and Neil are still figuring out where they’re going to end up. We’ve heard noncommittally that there’s been an idea for a third season of the show, but at the moment we’re working on one season at a time.” She further clarified that while a third installment is a possibility, it currently holds no guarantee.

According to Orsi, Druckmann and Mazin do have a concept for a third season in mind. However, it is unclear if this idea can feasibly evolve into additional series.
