Cities Skylines 2, the highly-anticipated sequel to the popular city-building game, has surprised players with a download size that far exceeds initial expectations.

While Paradox had initially stated that the game would take up about 50 GB of hard drive space, updated system requirements on Steam indicate a larger footprint of 60 GB. This revelation comes just before the release of Cities Skylines 2, shedding light on the challenges that await city-building enthusiasts.

In our comprehensive Cities Skylines 2 review, we delved into a range of technical and performance problems that affect this city-building marvel. While the game boasts numerous new tools and features, it grapples with issues like freezes, stuttering, and texture problems, all of which raise concerns for players eagerly awaiting the sequel.

Paradox had previously declared that Cities Skylines 2 would have a download size of “about 50 GB at release.” However, they also made it clear that a full preload option would not be available. Game Pass subscribers, though, have the privilege of downloading a small portion of the game before its official launch.

With the revised information on the Cities Skylines 2 download size, we now understand that it will occupy a more substantial 60 GB of storage space, making it significantly larger than initially indicated.

To put this into perspective, the original Cities Skylines was a mere 4 GB in size, roughly one-eighth the size of its sequel. In other words, Cities Skylines 2 is a whopping 15 times larger than its predecessor, making it a demanding addition to your hard drive, particularly if you plan to add Cities Skylines 2 mods.
