Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, the much-anticipated sequel in the Final Fantasy series, promises a rollercoaster ride of mature content and engaging storytelling, as indicated by its recent ESRB rating.

Garnering a Teen rating for its blend of violence, suggestive themes, and the use of alcohol and tobacco, the game is set to offer a rich and multifaceted experience.

The ESRB rating emphasizes the game’s vivid combat scenes, which are a hallmark of the Final Fantasy series. Players can expect intense battles highlighted by realistic impact sounds, cries of pain, and explosions.

Notably, the game features instances of characters being impaled or slashed by swords, often accompanied by slow-motion effects to enhance the dramatic impact. Additionally, other violent sequences include an assassin using a spinning blade and characters getting shot by soldiers, adding to the game’s dynamic and high-stakes atmosphere.

Suggestive Themes and Character Designs

In line with the series’ tradition of creating compelling characters, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth includes characters with revealing outfits and suggestive dialogues. The ESRB notes instances of deep cleavage and camera panning that emphasize characters’ bodies or outfits, adding a layer of allure to the game’s narrative.

One character even boasts about their “bodacious beach bod,” though the game leaves it to the player’s imagination to identify the braggart.

Reflecting more mature aspects of its story, the game depicts scenes where characters engage in drinking and smoking. Cloud, the protagonist, is seen drinking moonshine at a bar, and certain cutscenes portray characters with slurred speech, implying drunkenness. Additionally, scenes of characters smoking cigars or using hookahs add to the game’s realistic portrayal of a diverse set of characters.

Language: A Dash of Reality

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

The dialogue in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth does not shy away from strong language. The game’s characters are scripted to use words like “sht,” “ashole,” and “pr*ck,” reflecting the intense and sometimes harsh world they inhabit.

This latest installment has already captured the attention of the gaming community, winning the Most Wanted award at The Golden Joystick Awards 2023. The game’s mix of action, mature themes, and engaging storytelling is likely to heighten its popularity upon its release on February 29.
