Apple TV Plus’s espionage thriller “Slow Horses” has marked another milestone with the announcement of its fifth season renewal. The show, starring the acclaimed Gary Oldman, has captivated audiences with its gripping portrayal of MI5’s sidelined agents, and the renewal comes as a testament to its growing popularity and critical acclaim.

“Slow Horses” is an adaptation of the Slough House novels by Mick Herron. It revolves around the story of Jackson Lamb, portrayed by Gary Oldman, who leads a group of MI5 agents. These agents, known as the “Slow Horses,” find themselves relegated to mundane desk jobs due to their career-compromising mistakes.

However, the narrative takes an exhilarating turn as they get embroiled in high-stakes missions that threaten national security, offering a chance at redemption and excitement far beyond the confines of their desks.

The series boasts a talented ensemble cast including Jack Lowden, Kristin Scott Thomas, Saskia Reeves, Christopher Chung, River Cartwright, Aimee-Ffion Edwards, and Kadiff Kirwan. Oldman’s captivating performance as Lamb earned him nominations for both a Golden Globe and a BAFTA, highlighting the show’s caliber.

In its fifth season, “Slow Horses” promises to delve deeper into the world of espionage with a blend of intrigue and dark humor. The season’s premise, as revealed by Variety, hints at a web of mysterious events triggered by the personal life of the team’s tech expert, Roddy Ho. As the narrative unfolds, the Slow Horses will navigate a complex series of events, underscoring the adage that in espionage, “London Rules” reign supreme.

The show’s adaptation is the brainchild of Will Smith, known for his work on “Veep.” It first premiered on Apple TV Plus in April 2022 and quickly became a favorite, leading to the renewal of its third and fourth seasons before the second season had even aired. The third season concluded in December 2023, and fans are eagerly anticipating the fourth season, set to premiere in late 2024. The release date for the fifth season, however, remains under wraps.
