Good news for fans eagerly awaiting an Uncharted sequel – Mark Wahlberg has revealed he recently received word from Sony to start growing his mustache in preparation for the role of Victor “Sully” Sullivan. This request from the studio indicates the script for Uncharted 2 is complete and production could be gearing up.
Wahlberg confirmed in an interview that he had just gotten a call with instructions to begin cultivating Sully’s signature mustache, though he joked the facial hair doesn’t sprout quickly for him.
While timelines are still unclear, the actor expressed excitement about the sequel and enthusiasm from audiences for more adventures with treasure hunter Nathan Drake and mentor Sully.
Sequel Script Finished, Wahlberg Reveals in Interview
The first Uncharted film debuted earlier this year to solid box office success, grossing $139 million globally on opening weekend. Sony Pictures chairman Tom Rothman proclaimed the video game adaptation a “new hit franchise” for the studio. The ending teased Sully’s iconic look, setting up further adventures for the duo.
Director Ruben Fleischer has not yet been confirmed to return, but the script is finished according to Wahlberg. Though the actor previously indicated the sequel could show Sully with his mustache throughout, the request from Sony suggests the facial hair will again serve as a visual evolution.
