Now Warhammer 40,000 is getting in on the relaxation action with a new themed DLC pack. Yup, you read that right – even the dark grimness of the far future needs a good scrub down now and then! This new expansion brings the grime-blasting action to five iconic vehicles from the popular tabletop wargame universe.
We’re talking tanks, planes, the whole nine yards covered in rust, dirt and emperor knows what else just begging for you to rev up your power washer. The challenges shifted slightly too. Trading more earthy environments for harsh mechanical ones means lots of tiny grooves and pipes caking those tanks and aircraft that are a pain to clean. It significantly ups the detail work, which might be tedious for some. But if you enjoy getting up close and personal with your cleaning, it’s a delight.
Therein lies the rub though. Aside from fresh skins and some quirky context, this is fundamentally more vehicle cleaning – and not everyone enjoys that. High pressure rinses reveal most dirt effortlessly, so struggling to spot one hidden dot somewhere in etched panel lines gets old…fast. It artificially pads playtime in a way that isn’t very fun.
Sadly, that sinks replay value even further. Once was more than enough time straining eyes over the intricate Imperial Knight for missed grime. And with all the background environments being similar, there’s little visual variation to make re-cleansing the levels engaging. They’re impressive showpieces, no doubt. But the effort required makes revisiting the pack only appealing way down the road, after you’ve forgotten the headache.
If you thrive on cramped hand torture though, put down your power washer and grab your wallet! With tons of detail and punishing expectations, this DLC will push your cleaning skill far past reasonable comfort zones. But for those seeking a more zen experience, your dollars might be better spent waiting for the next pack. At the very least, don’t pay full price right away – let a good sale ease the pain first.
A Clean Bill of Health, With Some Fine Print
At the end of the day, this Warhammer 40k DLC delivers exactly what it promises – more spaces and vehicles to scrub clean in the grimdark future. The thematic tweaks to environments and dialogue successfully inject some over-the-top charm too. If you just want wacky power washing escapism, you really can’t go wrong here.
That said, the pack’s narrow focus on intricate vehicles won’t be everyone’s cleansing cup of tea either. Players more interested in architectural spaces or natural environments will find diminishing returns fast. And the astronomical jump in detail work might frustrate folks looking to simply zone out, not meticulously clean.
So who’s this expansion best suited for exactly? Well, 40k fans are a no brainer. The references and aesthetic will tickle them even through any gameplay tedium. But detail-oriented cleaners will enjoy themselves too. If you thrive on excavating every last speck out of the tiniest crevices, these war machines were designed just for you!
No matter which camp you fall into though, waiting for a good discount off that $8 asking price is advised. There’s fun to be had for sure – but with content this niche, better value is just around the corner.
As for what could make future DLC really pop? Some added gadgets and environmental effects would go a long way towards gameplay innovation, as would more open area levels. And while we may be painted into a grimdark corner for now, a bit more variety never hurts. Bring on the Tyranid Hive Ships and Necron Tomb Worlds! The time has come to really diversify where we direct this power spray.
