Fifteen years after “Scrubs” ended its nine-season run on television, fans of the beloved medical comedy may get a chance to see more of their favorite characters. Zach Braff, who played J.D. on the show, has hinted that talks are underway for a possible reunion project.
Braff remains grateful for the career-changing role of J.D. However, he recalled the physically and emotionally draining production schedules during the later seasons, with 12-14 hour workdays. This exhaustion started affecting the show. “We were repeating jokes and everyone felt tired,” Braff said.
Despite the long hours, Braff loved the laughter and friendships created on set. “Belly laughing every day was the job,” he said fondly. Those bonds have lasted, with recent vacations alongside co-star Sarah Chalke and creator Bill Lawrence.
A reunion could happen due to the show’s legacy at different studios. “Scrubs” airs on Disney-owned channels internationally, while creator Bill Lawrence now has a deal at Warner Bros. Braff teased that if the companies can work together, fans may see more.
Braff would only consider a limited return to avoid the grueling original schedules. He envisions reuniting with friends to entertain fans, while also earning fair pay.
As one of the most popular sitcoms of its era, “Scrubs” remains close to many hearts. If done right, honoring the legacy while respecting the cast, a reunion could delight long-time viewers. Fans will have to wait and see if discussions can make those dreams a reality.
