The made-for-TV Wynonna Earp movie “Vengeance” sparked discussion among fans following its release on the streaming service Tubi. The 90-minute special focused on demon hunter Wynonna Earp and her allies battling corruption within the Black Badge organization. However, two significant character deaths caused disagreement among viewers of the long-awaited reunion special.

One death dividing fans was Doc Holliday, played by Tim Rozon since the show’s 2016 debut. In a pivotal shootout scene, Doc gunned down five opponents but suffered a fatal wound. Rozon said he supported the creative choice, feeling Doc “died for the one that means anything to him.” He wanted Doc to go down fighting, which the script provided. Co-star Melanie Scrofano called filming the scene difficult but credited the director’s sensitive handling.

Some fans applauded killing off the beloved Doc for story purposes. Others expressed sadness losing the character. Rozon acknowledged different viewpoints, saying as an actor he found the storyline “wonderful.” It allowed Doc to perish protecting his daughter and Wynonna, whom he loved.

The movie also advanced the plotlines of main characters. Originally planning to leave with Doc, Wynonna instead stayed in Purgatory at deputy to Nicole Haught, played by Katherine Barrell. This new dynamic between them could lead to both cooperation and comedy according to showrunner Emily Andras. Meanwhile, Waverly Earp took a job with Black Badge to combat issues from within, separating her from girlfriend Nicole for now.

The special featured both poignant moments as well as lighter scenes and references for devoted viewers. One joke showed Doc miss a shooting demonstration, which Rozon felt reflected his character growth. While closure came in some stories, the fates of Alice and Peacemaker were kept unresolved, hinting at future installments if the series continues. Overall, the movie sparked passionate debate but continued Wynonna Earp’s compelling story.
