Actress Shailene Woodley opened up recently about how her co-star Kate Winslet positively shaped her career when she was just starting out in Hollywood. The two worked together on the 2014 Divergent franchise films when Woodley was 21 years old. In a new interview on The Drew Barrymore Show, Woodley said Winslet played a key role in helping her navigate the challenges of fame and public scrutiny at a formative time.

Woodley described Winslet as authentic and unafraid to show her true self. The Oscar winner had already faced many years in the spotlight from her role in Titanic. According to Woodley, Winslet advised her not to change herself for others or listen to directives about her looks.

At the time, Woodley said she faced pressure to alter her appearance and lifestyle. But Winslet firmly told her that’s “not who you are” and to stay true to herself. This guidance came during a difficult transition into the public eye. Woodley noted she likely “would not be who I am today” without Winslet’s mentorship on self-acceptance.

The actress’s comments provide insight into the importance of support networks, especially for young stars. While Winslet herself has expressed some regrets over not standing up to critics earlier in her career, she stood up for Woodley. Their story highlights ongoing conversations about representation and well-being in Hollywood.

After Divergent, Woodley took a break from acting to focus on personal growth. She has since returned, currently starring in the TV series Three Women. As the industry addresses mental health, Woodley’s experience shows how veteran actors can help younger colleagues face challenges. It also stresses the value of mentorship in cultivating a healthier environment.
