Dying in Any Way Possible in the Callisto Protocol Is an Achievement

Because the game is so difficult according to the developers.

Developers of The Callisto Protocol are going to reward players for dying frequently. They have explained that the game is difficult and our character will be killed very often, therefore they compensate with varied death animations. There will even be an achievement for discovering all of them.

According to Mark James – technical director of The Callisto Protocol – when interviewed by VG247, the developers are calling the death animations “killer desserts” among themselves, because they “…represent a kind of reward for the player, even for failure.”

While a similar mechanic was used in the iconic Dead Space, the forthcoming game will see twice as many of them as in the original.

According to the developer, he says deaths from environmental elements are the most interesting: “so we thought ‘hey, let’s put a wood chipper here, it will be fun.’ We have put a lot of such moments in the game, and of course there are unique death animations while fighting enemies.”

As the studio is proud of the prepared scenes, they want to encourage players to see them all with a special achievement / trophy.

Character deaths are also going to be an essential part of learning about new enemies. However, James explains that the production is not going to provide the player with clear instructions on dealing with each type of enemy.

So during the course of the game we will frequently die, recognizing from our own mistakes the strengths and weaknesses of the opponents. However, to ensure that the title is not too frustrating, the developer promises “carefully” placed checkpoints.
