Recently it was reported that Johnny Depp could appear in the Pulp Ficiton film and play the role of Pumpkin. The production’s director, Quentin Tarantino, has decided to address the situation and dispel any doubts.
“Information about my wish list when it comes to casting “Pulp Fiction” is making the rounds on the Internet. I didn’t know exactly which actor should play which role, so I just wrote down a huge list, with a lot of names. I wanted them to tentatively agree to play, although I didn’t know if it would work, if I would catch on with them, and if they would even work in the roles. I wanted them to have dibs.” said the filmmaker in the “2 Bears, 1 Cave” podcast.
It appears that the film’s producers were delighted with Depp’s talent and were highly insistent that the actor be included in the cast.
Without taking into account the director’s own opinion, Mike Medavoy of TriStar Pictures studio planned to give him the role that Tarantino laid out for Tim Roth, star of such titles as “Rabid Dogs,” “Execute the Sentence” and “Little Odessa.”
I asked him if he really thought that Johnny Depp playing Pumpkin, who appears in the opening and ending scenes of the film, would make the production earn more. Medavoy replied that he wouldn’t give his head for it, but he would feel better,” Tarantino confessed.
Ultimately, Tarantino didn’t succumb to pressure, with Roth included in the cast of “Pulp Fiction.” The spectacle earned more than $200 million. On top of that, director was awarded an Oscar for best original screenplay.
