Capcom, the Japanese video game company, has undergone a remarkable transformation in recent years. The company was once on the brink of collapse, but a series of wise decisions and successful releases have helped it achieve enviable financial and critical success.
One of the key factors behind Capcom’s success is the Monster Hunter franchise, which has seen millions of units sold with the releases of Monster Hunter World, Monster Hunter Rise, and expansions like Sunbreak.
Additionally, the remakes of the Resident Evil series and the latest main installment have also performed well, leading to positive reports of financial results.
In recent months, Capcom has reported that it has sold 29.1 million games in the nine months ending December 31, 2022, which represents an increase of four million from the previous period.
The company is optimistic about the remainder of the fiscal year and expects to sell 40 million games in total, with 90% of these sales expected to be in digital format and 25% of new releases such as Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak and the Resident Evil 4 Remake.
Some of the top-performing games in the past nine months include Monster Hunter Rise, with 2.75 million copies sold, Resident Evil 2 with 1.5 million copies sold, Devil May Cry 5 with 1.45 million copies sold, and Resident Evil 3 with 1.35 million copies sold.
Other successful titles include Monster Hunter World: Iceborne and Street Fighter V, each selling 750,000 units. The company is also expected to see strong sales from the upcoming releases of Monster Hunter Rise for multiple platforms and the Resident Evil 4 Remake, set to release on March 24.
