Marking a momentous achievement in the realm of gaming, “Elden Ring” has claimed victory at the recent Nebula Awards by earning the Best Game Script accolade. This prestigious award is a tribute to the collaborative effort of George R.R. Martin, Hidetaka Miyazaki, and FromSoftware.
Known for their high regard within the sphere of English-language speculative fiction, the Nebula Awards are orchestrated by the Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers Association (SFWA).
While this marks the third Nebula win for George R.R. Martin, it is a first-time triumph for both Hidetaka Miyazaki and FromSoftware. Over his illustrious career, Martin has been nominated for the esteemed award on numerous occasions, emerging victorious in 1979 and 1985 for his captivating novellas.
Martin’s role in “Elden Ring” might have puzzled some initially, yet it’s undeniable that his inclusion in this esteemed recognition is fitting.
Nebula 2022: The Contenders
The 2022 Best Game Script category was fiercely competitive, boasting an impressive array of contenders. These included the evocative adventure game “Pentiment,” the intriguing “Stray” with its feline protagonist, the post-apocalyptic robot saga “Horizon Forbidden West,” the mysterious “Vampire: The Masquerade – Sins of the Sires,” and the immersive tabletop adventure book “Journeys through the Radiant Citadel.”

Before “Elden Ring,” this honor was bestowed upon Supergiants’ “Hades” in 2020, Obsidian’s “The Outer Worlds” in 2019, and the inaugural award in 2018 went to House of Tomorrow and Netflix’s “Black Mirror: Bandersnatch.” The role-playing game (RPG) “Thirsty Sword Lesbians” clinched the title in 2021.
