Redfall, the new game from the developers at Arkane Studios, has been receiving mixed reviews from players and critics alike.
Among the many complaints is the issue of the game’s graphics, which require surprisingly high hardware specifications. In order to get a closer look at this topic, we can compare the visuals on consoles and PC.
In a graphics analysis conducted by the editors at ElAnalistaDeBits, there are some interesting observations about the visual quality of Redfall.
Unfortunately, it appears that when compared to high-end PC graphics, the visual quality on the Xbox Series X (in the only available 30 fps animation mode) falls quite short. This not only applies to the draw distance of objects, but even to the quality of textures and LOD.
However, the Xbox Series S version of Redfall fairs exceptionally poorly, offering shockingly low-quality graphics. In many cases, it appears that the texture in normal resolution has not been uploaded to the Series S at all, which is evident in the recording at 1:30.
Additionally, the Series S has weak shadow quality, as shown at 4:20 in the recording. The Series S version of Redfall runs at 1080p dynamic resolution, while the Series X offers a resolution of 2160p.
In terms of framerate, the game holds a stable 30 fps on both consoles. However, there are minor “stutters” and drops of 1-2 frames per second on the Series S. Given the mediocre visuals of Redfall, it is difficult to anticipate a 60fps update on Xbox Series X|S. This mode will probably require further graphical quality restrictions on both consoles.
It is also worth noting the poor optimization of Redfall on PC, which has been the subject of complaints from many new owners of the game on Steam.
In the comparison between consoles and PC, the latter was equipped with an RTX 4070/4070Ti/4080 graphics card, an i9 12900K processor, and 32GB DDR5 RAM.
Overall, the visual quality of Redfall appears to be a disappointment, especially on the Xbox Series S console. While the game may still provide an engaging gameplay experience, players may want to consider the hardware requirements and the potential graphical limitations before purchasing the game on their preferred platform.
