Epic Games has launched a new game mode called ‘Reload’ as part of Fortnite’s update 30.20, offering players a fresh take on the battle royale format while incorporating nostalgic elements from the game’s past. This mode, reminiscent of Call of Duty: Warzone’s popular Resurgence mode, introduces unlimited respawns and a more compact, intense gameplay experience.
Reload is a 40-player battle royale that takes place on a smaller map featuring reimagined versions of iconic locations such as Tilted Towers and Retail Row from Fortnite’s Chapter 1. The mode is available in both traditional Battle Royale and Zero Build variants, catering to different player preferences.
One of the key features of Reload is its respawn mechanic. When a player is eliminated, an individual reboot timer starts, initially set at 30 seconds and scaling up to 40 seconds later in the match. Teammates can reduce this timer by eliminating opponents, and downed players have the option to start their reboot timer immediately instead of waiting for a revive. However, as the match nears its end, respawns are disabled, raising the stakes for surviving teams.
Epic Games has also unvaulted a variety of classic weapons for this mode, including the Revolver, Tactical Shotgun, Lever Action Shotgun, OG Heavy Shotgun, Tactical Submachine Gun, Infantry Rifle, Heavy Assault Rifle, Bolt Action Sniper Rifle, Rocket Launcher, and Grappler. This array of familiar weapons adds to the nostalgic feel of the mode while providing players with diverse tactical options.
To incentivize participation, Epic has introduced a series of quests and rewards. Players can earn 20,000 XP for each introductory quest completed. Finishing three quests unlocks the Digital Dogfight Contrail, six quests rewards the Pool Cubes Wrap, and completing nine quests grants the NaNa Bath Back Bling. Additionally, players who secure a Victory Royale will receive The Rezzbrella Glider.
The introduction of Reload mode demonstrates Epic Games’ commitment to evolving the Fortnite experience by drawing inspiration from successful elements of other popular battle royale games while maintaining the unique charm and history of Fortnite. As players dive into this new mode, it will be interesting to see how the community responds to this blend of nostalgia and competitive gameplay.
