Last Friday night, the historical drama “Shogun” had a night to remember at the Television Critics Association Awards. After a couple years away, the big ceremony was finally back in person! “Shogun,” which is set way back in feudal Japan, ended up winning a awesome four awards.
It got the top prize of “Program of the Year,” as well as awards for being the best drama show and for being a new show that totally rocks. One of the actresses on the show, Anna Sawai, also won for her amazing role as the character Mariko. This made her the ninth woman in a row to win this individual award for acting in a drama.
Over in the comedy category, the HBO Max show “Hacks” was the big winner. It took home awards for the funniest comedy show overall. Plus, its star Jean Smart won for the second time for her role – that puts her in an elite group with only a few other actors who’ve won multiple times.
Other winners included the Netflix movie “Baby Reindeer” for movies and limited shows. Peacock’s new reality show “The Traitors” also won for its category. There were also awards for the best kids and family shows, like “Doctor Who” on Disney+ and the awesome cartoon “Bluey.”
The night also paid tribute to some TV legends. The late Andre Braugher got an award for his whole career. And the iconic show “Twin Peaks” received an award for its lasting influence. Some other winners included a Netflix comedy special and a true crime show on ID.
