You’ve probably seen some weird movies, but get ready for one that’s truly out there – “Spermageddon!” This animated musical comedy caused a stir at the Annecy Film Festival this year, and now it’s found a home in France thanks to Originals Factory.
Originals Factory is known for putting out boundary-pushing films that aren’t afraid to be different, like “Everything Everywhere All At Once” and “The Whale.” They’ll handle getting “Spermageddon” into French theaters.
Directed by Tommy Wirkola (of “Dead Snow” zombie movie fame) and Rasmus A. Sivertsen (“Louis and Luca” cartoons), it follows a teenage couple’s first time together. But that’s not all – it also shows two sperm cells journeying to find an egg! There are musical numbers and tons of talking sperm, too. Inspired by weird shows like “South Park” and “Sausage Party,” it aims to make people laugh while tackling mature topics.
Originals Factory’s CEO Tristan Du Laz is pumped, saying “We’re branching into animated films for the first time with ‘Spermageddon.’ It’s an original, edgy movie that really fits with today.” Charades chairman Yohann Comte added he can’t think of a better company to get it seen, as Originals Factory has proven they’ll take risks to attract young adult audiences to indie films.
Already deals are in place for “Spermageddon” to be shown in Germany, Spain, and many other countries worldwide. Fans in Nordic places like Norway can catch it starting January 10th. With its offbeat style and humor, this film is sure to get people talking when it spreads across the globe. Only time will tell if it hits the mark – or misses it!
