If you’re itching for more brutal superhero action from “The Boys,” get ready for a long wait. Star Karl Urban, who plays the no-nonsense Billy Butcher, just revealed some disappointing details – the epic showdown between Butcher and Homelander won’t end until 2026 when Season 5 hits Amazon Prime.
Urban broke the news on Instagram. He posted a picture of Butcher covered in blood and clutching his trusty crowbar. In the caption, he wrote that working with Jeffrey Dean Morgan was the best part of filming each day. But then he dropped the bomb – fans will have to wait two whole years to see how the insane story concludes. Ouch!
You’d think with Season 4 just finishing up, we’d get the grand finale sooner. But showrunner Eric Kripke says five seasons is the perfect amount to wrap everything up without overstaying its welcome. I’m sure the writers want to craft an ending that does the crazy plot and characters justice.
Even with this long intermission, “The Boys” is still Amazon’s most watched show. Season 4 was its lowest rated, but critics still liked it overall. Though some viewers complained the political messages were too “in your face.” Kripke insists highlighting real world issues is important to the story, whether people want to hear it or not.
Luckily “The Boys” maniacs have a spin-off called “Gen V” to tide them over. It just started filming Season 2 at college. Rumor is some familiar faces may pop up, since the shows share the same wacky universe.
While two years seems like forever to wait, if past seasons are any sign, Season 5 is sure to be an epic, action-packed conclusion worth the patience. Fingers crossed it lives up to the insanity of what’s come before!
