The popular period drama Outlander has wrapped production after 101 episodes and eight seasons spanning 11 years, marking a significant milestone for the long-running Starz series. Based on the novels by Diana Gabaldon, Outlander tells the story of Claire and Jamie Fraser, played by Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan, who travel between past and present Scotland.
Heughan and Balfe, who have portrayed the beloved central couple since the beginning, expressed gratitude and reflection on social media as filming concluded. Heughan shared behind-the-scenes photos on Instagram, thanking the “incredible people” he worked with who are now “friends.” Balfe also thanked the cast and crew in a joint post with Heughan and the show’s production companies, emphasizing that Outlander “is more than just a show, it’s a family.”
Fans are eagerly awaiting the second part of season seven, set to premiere November 22, 2023. The upcoming episodes will see Claire, Jamie and Young Ian return to Scotland for the first time since season three. However, their homecoming is complicated by the conflicts of the Revolutionary War, which will force difficult choices between loved ones and their adopted homeland.
While filming has ended, Heughan hinted that the Outlander story is far from over. In a message to fans, he suggested “plenty more to look forward to,” indicating that while the main series concludes, the expansive Outlander universe may continue growing. A prequel series titled “Outlander: Blood of My Blood” is already in development. As the cast celebrates this milestone, fans worldwide anticipate what new adventures may emerge in the Outlander world.
