Filmmaker Scott Jeffrey has confirmed that the upcoming horror movie based on J.M. Barrie’s classic story Peter Pan will hit theaters in the first few months of 2025. Titled “Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare,” the film is the third installment in the Twisted Childhood Universe franchise.
Jeffrey, who wrote, directed, and produced the project, shared the release window during an Instagram interview. While he did not give a specific date, he said fans can expect the movie to premiere in early 2025. “Neverland Nightmare” will follow the surprise box office successes of the franchise’s first two films: “Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey” and its sequel.
Those movies reinvented beloved children’s characters in terrifying new ways. “Neverland Nightmare” takes a dark approach to Peter Pan as well. It stars Megan Placito as Wendy Darling, whose brother falls victim to a sinister version of the title character. In this adaptation, Peter Pan and Tinker Bell trick children into going to Neverland only to harm them, revealing their intent to commit murder.
Though excitement is high ahead of the film, it is still searching for a distributor according to industry insiders. The Twisted Childhood Universe entries before it were distributed by Altitude Film Distribution. Given past financial successes, the company may partner with the franchise again.
International audiences have shown great interest in the TCU films. Both “Blood and Honey” movies grossed over $7 million worldwide despite low budgets. However, domestic earnings, or money made in the United States, were lower. Especially for the sequel, which saw a significant drop in box office returns at home.
With an early 2025 release planned, “Neverland Nightmare” will face competition that period from anticipated movies like Ryan Coogler’s vampire thriller “Sinners” and Disney’s live-action “Snow White” remake. Industry analysts say securing a wider theatrical release could help the Peter Pan film gain more attention and increase its domestic profits, though extra marketing funds would be needed.
As “Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare” continues production, horror fans and moviegoers look forward to more updates on this dark take on a classic story before its early 2025 premiere.
