Former television presenter Phillip Schofield discussed facing mental health issues after his career was impacted by revelations of a workplace relationship in a new documentary. In “My Story with Phillip Schofield,” the one-time ITV host reflects on dealing with backlash from critics online and how support from friends and family helped him through a difficult period.
For over 20 years, Schofield co-hosted the morning program This Morning alongside Holly Willoughby. In May 2023, it was reported that the married father had engaged in a secret affair with a younger network colleague. In the Channel 5 series, Schofield shares experiencing suicidal thoughts in the aftermath. “My daughter Molly talked me down from making any rash decisions,” he recounts.
During filming alone on the island of Madagascar, Schofield opens up about feeling isolated from his previous workplace at ITV. While not naming specific individuals, he implies never appearing on the network again despite friends still presenting This Morning. At the same time, Schofield acknowledges the relationship was “unwise and unprofessional” and says he regretted the pain caused to others.
Though distancing himself from the public eye, Schofield expresses gratitude for wife Stephanie and daughters Molly and Ruby standing by him. In a emotional interview, Molly discusses their family bond strengthening through hardship. Stephanie also sympathizes with the “vicious comments” her husband faced online.
With raw honesty in the documentary, Phillip Schofield breaks his public silence on hitting his lowest moments and the loved ones who prevented his life from deteriorating further.
