Television presenter Phillip Schofield will take on both physical and personal obstacles in an upcoming Channel 5 series. In “Phillip Schofield: Cast Away,” viewers will watch Schofield spend 10 days alone on a deserted island off the coast of Madagascar. With only a handful of cameras, he will document how he survives in this remote location with few resources.
The 62-year-old star is making his first TV appearance since leaving his long-time role on ITV’s “This Morning” in 2023. At that time, Schofield spoke openly about having an affair with a younger male colleague. His revelation ended his job at “This Morning” and led to wider discussions within the television industry.
Guy Davies, a commissioning editor at Channel 5, believes the series will provide insight into how Schofield feels about his career and past. “The audience will learn how he feels now about television and the future, as well as the past,” Davies said. Viewers may see Schofield share his emotions and struggles openly.
In a social media post, Schofield said the project will test his survival abilities both on and off the island. He decided to participate because it appealed to him in many ways. Out in nature alone, Schofield will face isolation without the support of loved ones near him.
The new series comes after an external review found ITV adequately addressed rumors about Schofield’s relationship in 2019. However, Schofield declined to participate in the review, citing health concerns.
Produced by Burning Bright Productions, the three episodes will document Schofield’s physical endurance and allow him a platform to discuss the personal impacts of his career changes. As he takes on island survival, observers will watch closely to see how Schofield navigates his return to television and what the future may hold.
