Sabrina Carpenter, a pop singer, plans to reinvent holiday entertainment with her upcoming Netflix variety show, “A Nonsense Christmas,” which she teased during the Los Angeles conclusion of her U.S. Short n’ Sweet tour on Monday night.
The special, set to premiere on December 6 at 6 p.m. PT/9 p.m. ET, promises a new take on seasonal programming. Carpenter teases the show’s distinct approach, saying in the trailer, “I wouldn’t count on a silent night.”
The one-hour show will feature a stellar roster of musical collaborations and celebrity guests. Duets will be performed by various singers, including country singer Shania Twain, emerging talent Chappell Roan, Latin pop musician Kali Uchis, and breakout vocalist Tyla.
Aside from music, the show will feature appearances from entertainment personalities such as “Abbott Elementary” creator Quinta Brunson, model-actress Cara Delevingne, and actor Sean Astin. The variety performance is inspired by Carpenter’s 2023 Christmas EP “Fruitcake,” which included five original seasonal songs such as “Buy Me Presents” and the disco-influenced “Is It New Years Yet?”
“The holidays have always been so special to me,” Carpenter said in September, when he announced the special. “I am excited to bring my take to a classic holiday variety show — infusing my love of music and comedy to make something uniquely me.”
The Netflix special marks the conclusion of a successful U.S. tour that began in September. Previous tour highlights included a surprise duet with Christina Aguilera in Los Angeles, where they sang her hits “What a Girl Wants” and “Ain’t No Other Man.”
Carpenter’s musical enthusiasm will continue in 2024, with European tour dates set for March. The tour will take place in London, Paris, and Milan, with Rachel Chinouriri as the opening act.
“A Nonsense Christmas,” produced by OBB Pictures and At Last Productions, and directed by Sam Wrench with Nikki Boella as showrunner, seeks to provide fans with a unique and humorous perspective on holiday programming.
