Universal Pictures’ animated movie “The Wild Robot” regained the top spot at the UK and Ireland box office this weekend, making £2.179 million ($2.8 million) in its third week out. The movie has now made a total of £11.6 million ($15 million), which shows that it will do well in a challenging market.
Just behind in second place was “Venom: The Last Dance,” Sony’s superhero reboot, which made £2.175 million in its second weekend. The movie has quickly made £9.1 million since it came out, which shows that people are still interested in the series.
This weekend, several important new entries made the top ten. “Heretic” from Entertainment Film Distributors had the best opening weekend, making £1.9 million and coming in third. “Small Things Like These” from Lionsgate UK also found an audience, starting fourth place with £890,104.
Fans of scary movies kept going to see Paramount’s “Smile 2,” which made £600,979 in its third weekend, taking its total to £5.4 million. “Anora,” a movie from Universal that won an award at Cannes, was marked sixth place at £509,005.
Two Bollywood movies that did well showed how diverse the market was. “Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3” from AA Films UK and “Singham Again” from Moviegoers Entertainment came in seventh and ninth, making £408,295 and £359,622, respectively.
During its fourth week, Paramount’s “Transformers One” stayed in eighth place with £390,258, while Warner Bros.’s “Juror #2” finished in tenth place with £334,827.
The market is about to get a boost of new content, as several high-profile releases are set to happen this week. Some of these are “Red One,” an action-adventure movie from Warner Bros. with Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans, and “Placebo: This Search For Meaning,” a music documentary.
In other news, Studiocanal’s long-awaited movie “Paddington in Peru” will be released on Friday. Olivia Colman, Emily Mortimer, Antonio Banderas, Ben Whishaw, and Paddington’s voice are just a few of the great actors in the latest movie in the popular family series.
