Marvel Studios has officially acknowledged the creation of “Black Panther 3,” a disclosure made by Oscar-winning actor Denzel Washington in a recent interview. This news comes as Marvel undergoes substantial changes, with top executive Nate Moore preparing to leave the studio for new opportunities.
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and co-president Louis D’Esposito issued a statement noting the film’s progress and thanking Moore for his long-standing efforts. “Nate is a fantastic executive and colleague as well as a wonderful friend to all of us here at Marvel Studios,” they told me. He has been a core member of our team since 2010, and his influence will continue to resonate in our storytelling.”
Washington alluded to the film’s existence while promoting “Gladiator II.” He revealed that director Ryan Coogler has written a role specifically for him in the next “Black Panther” sequel. Later, on Variety’s “Awards Circuit” podcast, Washington apologized to Coogler for discussing the project prematurely. “I called him and apologized for talking about the movie, and right there sitting with him was his beautiful wife,” Washington told me. “He’s still Ryan: humble and full of ideas. Whatever he writes, I will read.”
Washington’s remarks reflect his evolving career aspirations, including a Broadway staging of “Othello,” a role as Hannibal, and potential collaborations with renowned filmmakers like Steve McQueen. He has been upfront about his intention to focus on high-level initiatives in the future. “At this point in my career, I only want to work with the greatest. I’m not sure how many more films I’ll create; it’s probably not very many,” he said.
Though Marvel has not announced a particular release date or any information on “Black Panther 3,” the news is exciting for fans. The franchise’s earlier films, which starred the late Chadwick Boseman and had a famed ensemble cast including Lupita Nyong’o, Daniel Kaluuya, and Forest Whitaker, were critical and commercial successes.
Fans can watch “Black Panther” and “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” on Disney+, revisiting the landmark series while anticipating the next installment.
