“Carry-On,” Netflix’s newest action movie, is getting much attention on the service. The movie has been seen over 97 million times in just ten days since it came out on December 13. Because of this amazing performance, it could become one of Netflix’s most-watched original movies.
The movie “Carry-On” stars Taron Egerton as a TSA agent who is forced by a mercenary (Jason Bateman) to let a bag with a dangerous nerve agent onto a plane. Written by T.J. Fixman and directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, known for “Jungle Cruise,” the movie also stars Sofia Carson.
Netflix’s internal measurements, which count views by dividing the total number of watch hours by the movie’s length in two hours, show that “Carry-On” has been the most popular English-language movie on the service for two weeks. It had a lot of watchers through December 22, which makes me think it might soon be added to Netflix’s list of the top 10 English-language original movies.
Right now, “Carry-On” has 97.1 million views, more than 70% more than “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery,” which has 136.3 million views and is in tenth place. Netflix tracks these numbers by examining how well a movie does in its first 91 days in theaters.
Many Netflix original movies lose watchers in their third week, but “Carry-On” will stay the same. Like, “Damsel” went from 50.8 million views to 19.5 million views in its third week, a 62% drop. But even if the number of views stays the same, “Carry-On” could still get an extra 21 million in the next week.
“Red Notice,” which had 230.9 million views in its first 91 days, is now Netflix’s most-watched original film. Getting this record would be a big step forward for “Carry-On.” From how well it’s been received so far, it will be one of Netflix’s biggest hits in 2024.
