This year’s Golden Globe goes to Adrien Brody for his part in “The Brutalist.” It’s been twenty years since he made history by winning an Oscar for “The Pianist.” Brody’s most recent award is a big moment in his career because it makes him think about his challenges and successes.
In an emotional victory speech, Brody expressed his gratitude for being recognized. He said onstage, “I’ve had a long life and career with many highs and lows.” This experience has given me perspective and a great appreciation for this moment because it can go away.”
Brady Corbet directs “The Brutalist,” in which Brody plays a Jewish Hungarian builder who has to figure out how to live in America after World War II. His character has problems, like a bad relationship with Guy Pearce’s character, a real estate mogul. The film was well-liked by Golden Globe judges, winning for Best Director and Best Feature Drama.
Brody’s performance makes him think of his own family’s past. During his speech, he made a connection between his character’s trip and his mother’s life as an immigrant. The man told his parents in the crowd, “This story makes me think of my mother and her family’s journey of fleeing war and coming to this great country.”
Brody sees this win as more than just an award. He was honest about having doubts about his career. “There was a time not too long ago when I thought this might never be a moment given to me again,” he said, thanking his girlfriend Georgina for her support.
Ralph Fiennes, Colman Domingo, Timothée Chalamet, Daniel Craig, and Sebastian Stan were all strong candidates for the award, as was Adrien Brody. He set the record for youngest actor to win Best Actor when he did it at age 29 in 2002.
Antisemitism and persecution were two other significant themes the actor touched on in the film. He said that these problems are still important now. “Unfortunately, there is a tremendous amount of antisemitism,” Brody told us. “It’s something that this character is fleeing… to be oppressed and judged.”
Brody has played various parts in films like The Grand Budapest Hotel and Asteroid City and worked with director Wes Anderson.
Finally, Brody gave his award to the other nominees and the film’s creative team. He said, “Thank you for letting me be a small part of building this triumph and monument to humanity and the arts.” This shows how important it is to work together when making a film.
