Steven Knight has suggested that the upcoming Peaky Blinders film could see a theatrical release before arriving on Netflix. The highly anticipated continuation of the hit series recently wrapped filming and features a cast that includes Barry Keoghan, Tim Roth, Rebecca Ferguson, Cillian Murphy, and Stephen Graham.
In an interview with Playlist, Knight confirmed that production concluded on December 13 and expressed his enthusiasm for the project. “We’ve got Barry Keoghan, Tim Roth, Rebecca Ferguson, and obviously Cillian Murphy and Stephen Graham. And I have to say, it is mind-blowingly good.”
Knight emphasized his desire for fans to experience the film in a shared setting rather than solely through streaming. “I really want the Peaky fans who have been a big part of this to be watching it all together in one building. The communication has all been virtual, but I do want this to be in cinemas so that people can sit there together and watch this thing happen.”
Neither Knight nor Netflix has officially confirmed whether a theatrical run will precede its streaming debut.
The film continues the Peaky Blinders saga following six seasons that aired between 2013 and 2022. While Knight has framed the movie as a conclusion to this chapter of the story, he has not ruled out future projects in the Peaky Blinders universe. “This is a fitting end to the first chapter. As long as there’s an appetite for it and I’ve got stories to tell, then why not?”
Beyond Peaky Blinders, Knight remains active in historical drama. His series SAS Rogue Heroes recently aired its second season on the BBC, and A Thousand Blows debuted on Disney Plus.
