Netflix has released the first official teaser for the third and final season of Squid Game, confirming the series’ return on June 27. All episodes will debut simultaneously, concluding the global hit created by Hwang Dong-hyuk.
The footage opens with protagonist Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) being placed back inside the players’ barracks in a Squid Game coffin, a continuation of the failed revolt that closed out Season 2. Though alive, Gi-hun reenters the competition under harsher conditions as the final phase begins. Scenes from the teaser show the players facing a new set of challenges, including a giant gumball machine that appears to determine their next test.
Netflix describes the upcoming season as a return to the center of the deadly competition, with Gi-hun now driven by a singular goal: to dismantle the games. Still affected by the execution of Park Jung-bae (Lee Seo-hwan) at the hands of the Front Man (Lee Byung-hun), Gi-hun finds himself navigating higher stakes and growing distrust within the remaining group of players.
Season 2 ended with Gi-hun, Jung-bae, and others attempting to lead a rebellion after players voted to continue the game. That plan collapsed when the Front Man, revealed to be Player 001 in disguise, intervened and killed Jung-bae. The new season picks up immediately after, with Gi-hun returned to confinement alongside other survivors.
New scenes preview a dinner sequence, fresh arrivals on the island, and another concealed twist: the sound of a baby crying in the final seconds of the trailer. One clip shows the Front Man monitoring the events from a control room, while another suggests the continuation of the infiltration effort that began outside the island headquarters.
Returning cast members for the third season include Lee Byung-hun as the Front Man, Wi Ha-jun as detective Hwang Jun-ho, and several supporting players from earlier rounds. Familiar participants such as Myung-gi (Player 333), Dae-ho (Player 388), Hyun-ju (Player 120), Yong-sik (Player 007), Geum-ja (Player 149), Jun-hee (Player 222), Min-su (Player 125), Nam-gyu (Player 124), and the pink guard No-eul are seen in the teaser.
Season 2, which premiered on December 26, recorded the highest premiere-week viewership for any Netflix Korean original, surpassing the debut of the first season. Netflix has not confirmed the total number of episodes for Season 3, though reports indicate it may contain six.
Squid Game, produced by Firstman Studio, was created and written by Hwang Dong-hyuk, who also serves as an executive producer alongside Kim Ji-yeon. While this season is billed as the conclusion of the main story, Hwang has previously discussed potential expansion through character backstories or events that take place between existing seasons. The franchise has already inspired additional properties, including Squid Game: The Challenge and Squid Game: The Experience, a live immersive tour.
