Ryan Reynolds has reignited speculation about Deadpool joining Marvel’s next ensemble after the actor posted a cryptic Avengers-themed image on Instagram this week, prompting fans to connect the tease to Avengers: Doomsday.
Neither Reynolds nor Marvel has confirmed his involvement. The studio is currently filming the event movie, which follows a March cast reveal and remains open to additional names. The film is slated for December 18, 2026.
Marvel detailed production in March and highlighted a roster that spans Avengers stalwarts, the Fantastic Four, and legacy X-Men performers. The studio also signaled that the initial announcement was not exhaustive, telling fans “there’s always room for more,” a line that has fueled hopes for surprise appearances.
Reynolds has previously cautioned against granting Deadpool formal membership in the Avengers or X-Men, arguing that such “wish fulfillment” would mark the end of the character’s journey.
He has, however, indicated interest in ensemble storytelling and crossover appearances. Those comments temper expectations that any Doomsday role would be a leading one, even if a cameo or limited-participation turn fits the project’s multiversal scope.
Context for the moment is unusually strong. Marvel’s official materials confirm Doomsday under directors Anthony and Joe Russo with Robert Downey Jr. returning to the MCU in a new role, and they place the Fantastic Four alongside Avengers and X-Men in the narrative mix.
The studio has been explicit that more casting reveals may follow as production advances. Against that backdrop, Reynolds’ post reads less like an out-of-the-blue gag and more like a calculated nod toward a film already designed to absorb headline-making cameos.
