Sophie Turner says kissing Kit Harington for The Dreadful felt “vile”

Turner describes the shift from family to romance with her Game of Thrones co-star and outlines how the period horror took shape under director Natasha Kermani.

Turner’s remarks align with a clip shared by the show’s account, which teases the on-screen shift from their years playing relatives to lovers.

Turner said she had advocated for Harington to join the project before fully considering where the characters’ relationship would lead, adding that long familiarity made the intimacy feel strange despite their professionalism. She also serves as a producer on the film and has spoken previously about the awkwardness of playing lovers after portraying family members across eight seasons of the HBO series.

The Dreadful is written and directed by Natasha Kermani and is set during the Wars of the Roses, following Anne (Turner) and her mother-in-law on the fringes of society when a figure from their past, Jago (Harington), returns.

UK and Ireland distribution is handled by True Brit Entertainment, with production having wrapped earlier this year after filming in Cornwall; the project has been in post with no domestic release date announced. The film is positioned as a straight-ahead period chiller, with Turner’s casting and producing role signaling a continued move into genre storytelling alongside her recent television and film work.
