Prime Video has released the full trailer for The Girlfriend, a six-episode psychological thriller led by Robin Wright and Olivia Cooke, and set a September 10 global premiere with all episodes available the same day. The series centers on a successful mother whose suspicions about her adult son’s new partner escalate into a high-stakes contest of wills, positioning the show for a late-summer streaming launch aimed at binge viewing.
Adapted from Michelle Frances’s bestseller by writers Gabbie Asher and Naomi Sheldon, the drama reframes a familiar domestic setup through shifting points of view, inviting audiences to question whose version of events to trust. Wright also directs, and in a July interview described being drawn to the project after reading the pilot, saying she could “see the show” immediately—an approach reflected in the trailer’s alternating perspectives and escalating mind games.
The cast includes Laurie Davidson as Daniel, Waleed Zuaiter as Howard and a supporting ensemble featuring Tanya Moodie, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Anna Chancellor, Leo Suter and Francesca Corney. Produced by Imaginarium Productions with Amazon MGM Studios, the series follows an earlier teaser released in mid-July; the new trailer expands the campaign with extended footage highlighting class tensions, power dynamics and the hazards of reading intent into public charm. Prime Video says the show will be available in more than 240 countries and territories.
The Girlfriend arrives as part of a broader push into character-driven thrillers on the platform. Behind the scenes, production took place in London and Spain, with the book’s author citing the story’s appeal in the uneasy triangle between a mother, her son and the woman who upends their balance. The trailer emphasizes that ambiguity rather than clear-cut villainy, a tonal choice that mirrors the source material’s duel of perspectives.
