Meg Stalter and Paul W. Downs arrived at the Critics Choice Awards in Santa Monica on Jan. 4 wearing near-identical replicas of the matching orange outfits Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet wore to the Los Angeles premiere of Marty Supreme in December, turning one of the season’s most circulated red-carpet photos into a live gag. Their looks recreated the bright orange leather suit, orange shirt and boots, plus the black paddle-shaped bag associated with Chalamet’s premiere styling, paired with a floor-length orange cutout gown and cross jewelry mirroring Jenner’s.
Downs told The Hollywood Reporter the pair leaned on “friends” for wardrobe help because production kept them busy. “We’ve been shooting season five of ‘Hacks’ and haven’t had a lot of time to shop or pull,” he said, adding that borrowing solved the problem. Stalter kept the bit running, joking that a close friend lent her the dress: “I’m not going to name any names — but she let me borrow this dress. Fits like a glove.”
A designer, Erica D. Schwartz, created the replicas, according to red-carpet coverage that tracked the stunt down to specific details and accessories. Video from the event’s Glambot camera captured Stalter and Downs holding deadpan poses as photographers clocked the reference immediately.
The parody landed on a night already primed for Chalamet-Jenner chatter. Chalamet won best actor for Marty Supreme inside the ceremony and delivered a rare, direct onstage message to Jenner, calling her his “partner of three years.”
Reaction online split predictably: fans treated the look as affectionate homage and a smart piece of awards-season comedy, while others argued it underlined how quickly celebrity couples can become costume shorthand. Stalter has leaned into that friction before, telling reporters during last year’s Emmys that “there’s no rules” on the carpet and urging public figures to use big stages for causes they care about.
