Luciane Buchanan will not appear in Season 3 of Netflix’s spy thriller The Night Agent, a shift that moves the series fully onto Peter Sutherland’s solo assignments after two seasons built around his partnership with Buchanan’s Rose Larkin.
Buchanan said the decision came from the writers’ plan to track Peter’s next mission after the Season 2 breakup, with Peter urging Rose to step away for her own safety. She said the creative team did not want to force Rose into a smaller presence that would shortchange what the character had carried in the first two seasons.
Season 3, which begins streaming Thursday, Feb. 19, follows Peter as he operates with more autonomy and training than he had earlier in the run, according to comments from series star Gabriel Basso. He described Peter as someone who now “finds his footing” as a covert operative, shaped by earlier betrayals and a growing refusal to tolerate dishonesty from people in power.
The new season’s setup pulls Peter into another high-stakes assignment tied to sensitive information and shadowy influence, with Netflix teasing a mission that involves getting close to a powerful figure with sway over a future president.
The show’s approach reflects how it has treated each season as a fresh case file, rotating allies and adversaries around Peter rather than locking the story to one steady ensemble. Buchanan has still left the door open, saying she would consider returning if a future story gives Rose a meaningful place, and the production team has echoed that it would rather wait for the right fit than stage a quick cameo.
