Amanda Seyfried came close to revealing last year that she had returned to Elizabeth Holmes in Nathan Fielder’s documentary “You Can See Everything,” according to a “CBS Sunday Morning” interview that has resurfaced online. The footage dates to November 2025. Asked about Holmes’s voice, Seyfried broke off mid-answer and said, “I’ve had some practice lately.” She went on to say Holmes lowered her vocal pitch for her own reasons, and that her speaking style belongs to her. The line, read now, points straight at the film that arrived this fall.
Seyfried played the Theranos founder in Hulu’s “The Dropout.” In the documentary, Fielder visits her home and makes her watch clips of Holmes reacting to that series. With the real Holmes behind bars, Fielder then stages scenarios in which Seyfried steps back into the role.
The turn came by design. Co-director Lance Oppenheim said he first planned only to show Seyfried the footage and gain insight from her reaction. That changed when she said she wanted to play Holmes again. Emma Stone, who starred with Fielder in “The Curse,” connected the filmmakers with the actress. Oppenheim said the film is haunted by Holmes’s absence once she leaves.
The film follows Holmes in the weeks before she began an 11-year prison sentence in 2023 for defrauding investors. Fielder and Oppenheim filmed in secret with Holmes and her partner, Billy Evans. Audiences have turned out. After a surprise Telluride premiere, it opened to $15 million on fewer than 900 screens, then took $19.5 million in its second weekend for a $45.1 million total. It holds a 98% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 97 on Metacritic. One Variety critic predicted it will top many year-end lists and reach $100 million.
Reviews are not unanimous. Some critics objected to the nearly three-hour runtime and to how Fielder treats Holmes. Awards buzz is building anyway. Seyfried’s near-slip shows how tightly the production guarded its biggest surprise.
