Actress Mckenna Grace says she does not take roles that require nudity or heavily sexualized material, and she cannot say that will ever change. Grace, 20, laid out the line in an interview with Cosmopolitan. She said she respects performers who take on such scenes but called the prospect “terrifying” for her. Her limits, she added, do not confine her to gentle material. Her character in Scream 7 dies when Ghostface guts her, and she cited that role as proof she takes dark parts. Her stated ambition points the other way. Grace said she wants to play a Disney princess someday.
The comments come as Grace moves into a wider range of adult roles. She appears in Regretting You and Scream 7, and she plays Maysilee Donner in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, which opens later this month. Her profile has climbed steadily since her breakout in 2017’s Gifted, which earned her a Critics’ Choice nomination. She has since worked across horror, including The Haunting of Hill House and Annabelle Comes Home, as well as comedy and the Ghostbusters sequels.
Grace began on Disney XD’s Crash & Bernstein and later appeared in The Vampire Diaries and Young Sheldon. She told the magazine that child actors on set must behave like adults until the camera rolls, then get scolded for acting like children. Now that she is an adult, she said, she enjoys having more say and more ownership over her characters. She likes sitting down with producers to pitch ideas.
She also spoke about her private life. Grace has been in a relationship with Regretting You co-star Mason Thames since the two made it public in February, after a trip to Paris that followed months of speculation. She said she sees no reason to hide it. Some moments belong only to her and her partner, she said, but she wants to celebrate whom she loves, and she rejects the worry that a breakup would make public affection embarrassing. She prefers to focus on the present.
