Thomas Benski, a renowned producer best known for his achievements with programs such as Gangs of London, has launched Lumina, a new media firm to challenge established entertainment paradigms. The announcement is a huge milestone for Benski, who previously co-founded Pulse Films. This global company generated over $150 million in sales before leaving in 2021.
Lumina has obtained finance from significant investors such as Magnus Rausing’s BFK, Charles Dorfman’s Dorfman Media Holdings, and SVS Holdings. A first-round investment is believed to be in the mid-eight figures. The company intends to revolutionize media production by emphasizing talent empowerment and intellectual property (IP) ownership.
“The media industry is undergoing rapid change,” Benski stated. “This is the perfect moment to create future-focused companies that give artists more control and autonomy.” Lumina’s strategy is based on a decentralized method to content creation, allowing creators to retain more ownership over their work while benefiting from long-term success.
The organization has already established an amazing portfolio spanning multiple ventures. Collaborations include those with Carrousel Studios, a European studio co-founded by Oman Sy and filmmaker Louis Leterrier, and Yann Demange’s Wayward Films. Lumina is also investing in several industries, including gaming, children’s entertainment, consumer brands, and Magna Studios, a new multidisciplinary film company.
Lumina’s focus on talent development has earned acclaim from its partners. “We saw an incredible opportunity to develop a business that puts artists first,” said Oman Sy, the CEO. The media group’s operations are divided into four main areas: talent-driven studios, production, kids and family content, and consumer brands. Lumina has set an ambitious goal of producing $55 million in revenue in its first year and intends to become profitable soon.
