Jason Isaacs addressed the ongoing debate about his full-frontal scene in The White Lotus during an interview on CBS Mornings. When Gayle King brought up speculation on social media about whether he used a prosthetic, Isaacs refused to confirm or deny, instead calling out a double standard in discussions of nudity in film and television.
“A lot of people are debating it. It’s all over the internet,” Isaacs said. When King pointed out that he hadn’t answered the question, he explained his reasoning. “The best actress this year is Mikey Madison at the Oscars, and I don’t see anyone discussing her body, which is on television all the time,” he responded. “I think it’s interesting that there’s a double standard for men, but when women are naked—Margaret Qualley in The Substance, for example—no one would dream of talking to her about it.”
Isaacs acknowledged that he was deliberately avoiding the question. “I don’t think people really want to know how the production process works,” he said. “It would be odd to sit here and discuss the bodies of female cast members. No one would do that for a second.”
His co-stars Sam Nivola and Sarah Catherine Hook, who play his character’s children in The White Lotus, previously confirmed that Isaacs was wearing a prosthetic. During the interview, Isaacs dismissed the public fixation on the topic, saying, “Mike White is a brilliant writer. It’s the best series on television for a long time. And what is the obsession with this? It’s an odd thing.”
Nivola and Hook later shared their own perspective on filming the scene. “It was really funny,” Hook said. “He was very excited to do it. I think he took pride in the prosthetic.” Nivola added, “He’s like, ‘It’s my fake scene today!’”
New episodes of The White Lotus air Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on HBO and Max.
