Nickelodeon has ended its live-action comedy Tyler Perry’s Young Dylan after five seasons and 85 episodes. The decision was confirmed shortly after the final episode of Season 5 aired on April 30.
“After five incredible seasons of Tyler Perry’s Young Dylan, we are officially wrapping production,” the network said in a statement. “We’re deeply proud of the entire cast and crew, as well as our amazing partners at Tyler Perry Studios, for the work they’ve created and the stories they’ve brought to life around this show.”
The series, which premiered in February 2020, was created and executive produced by Tyler Perry. It marked one of Perry’s first projects for Nickelodeon and represented his involvement with platforms under the Paramount umbrella beyond his long-standing partnership with BET and BET+. Production took place at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta.
The story followed Dylan, played by Dylan Gilmer, a confident aspiring hip-hop artist who moves in unexpectedly with his extended family. Carl Anthony Payne II portrayed Dylan’s uncle Myles, with additional cast members including Mieko Hillman, Aloma Lesley Wright, Celina Smith, Hero Hunter, and Jet Miller.
In its fifth season, the show focused on Dylan and his cousin Rebecca, played by Smith, as they tried to grow their independent record label. The rest of the Wilson family responded to the challenges brought on by Dylan’s musical ambitions. The two-part season finale, titled “Dream Team” and “Funcle,” now serves as the end of the series.
Carl Anthony Payne II, who directed the final episode, confirmed the cancellation via Instagram. “Unfortunately we didn’t get renewed for a 6th season,” he wrote. “All things must come to an end. However I’m looking forward to what’s next and what the future holds! Thank you to Tyler Perry and everyone at TPS.”

On the same day Nickelodeon confirmed the cancellation, BET+ announced a new series from Perry titled Divorced Sistas, a spinoff of his hit drama Sistas, set to debut on June 9.
