Ben Crompton, known for portraying Eddison Tollett on Game of Thrones, will direct Snow White: The Sacrifice, a new film adaptation of a contemporary ballet set to stream on arts platform Marquee TV in September. The project reframes the tale for adults and continues the streamer’s investment in filmed dance theater following earlier fairytale titles.
Developed with Newcastle-based company balletLORENT, the film draws on writer Carol Ann Duffy’s retelling and features a score by composer Murray Gold. Actor Sarah Parish is attached as narrator, extending a collaboration that has accompanied stage performances of the piece. The production was shot in and around Newcastle’s West End with local partners after a spring tour that included stops at venues such as Sadler’s Wells East, Worthing, Darlington, and Doncaster.
The filmed version follows a run of UK stage dates and a limited engagement in early September, designed to bridge live performance and on-screen storytelling. Company materials describe the work as a darker spin on the myth, with costume design by Nasir Mazhar and Libby El-Alfy, sets by Phil Eddolls, and lighting by Malcolm Rippeth. Marquee TV positions the release as part of a slate that brings dance and theater productions to a global audience beyond traditional touring circuits.
The timing places Crompton’s film alongside renewed pop-culture attention to the Snow White canon this year, including a high-profile studio remake that premiered in March. The Marquee TV project is unrelated and adopts a distinct creative approach rooted in dance cinema and a mature tone.
