Ray Romano and Brad Garrett brought a slice of Everybody Loves Raymond back to the Emmy stage this fall, reuniting to present Outstanding Comedy Series at the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles on September 14, 2025. The appearance marked two decades since their CBS sitcom won in the same category, and it doubled as a public warm-up for a 30th anniversary reunion special set to air November 24 on CBS and stream on Paramount+.
Romano and Garrett, who played brothers Ray and Robert Barone, leaned into their old dynamic during the presentation. Garrett cracked that his next Emmy recognition might come during the In Memoriam reel, and Romano replied that he would probably make it “if it’s a slow year.” Romano then plugged Garrett’s Las Vegas comedy club, prompting Garrett to quip that it is “in the food court,” before Romano capped the bit with, “If you were this funny back then, we could have won a couple more.”
Everybody Loves Raymond ran from 1996 to 2005 and followed a Long Island sportswriter, his wife, their kids, and his parents and brother living across the street. Built from family stories shared by Romano and creator Phil Rosenthal, the show became a ratings staple and collected 15 Emmy Awards, including two wins for comedy series.
The upcoming anniversary program returns the cast to the Barone living room for a 90-minute retrospective hosted by Romano and Rosenthal. Patricia Heaton, Monica Horan, Madylin Sweeten, and Sullivan Sweeten are slated to appear, with tributes planned for late co-stars Peter Boyle and Doris Roberts. Romano and Rosenthal said they had tried to mount 20th and 25th anniversary events, but network backing did not line up until this year. Garrett has repeated that a scripted revival is off the table, arguing the show cannot exist without Boyle and Roberts’ parental characters.
Beyond the broadcast, an exhibition celebrating the series’ Long Island roots is scheduled to open November 28 at the Long Island Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame, featuring a large recreation of the set and memorabilia from the production.
