Orville Peck tried to bring Kylie Minogue back to Street Fighter three decades after she played Cammy in the 1994 original, but a timing clash killed the plan, the singer revealed this week. Peck plays the masked fighter Vega in the new Paramount adaptation, which opened in cinemas Friday.
He said the filmmakers struggled to reach Minogue about a cameo, so he stepped in. “I was like, ‘Guys, I can text her,’” he told Queerty. He tried to “orchestrate” her appearance, he said, but the schedules never lined up. “She was gonna be so down to do it.”
The two are close. Peck featured Minogue and Diplo on “Midnight Ride,” a track from his 2024 album Stampede. He said he told her about his casting right away, and she answered warmly, describing the 1994 shoot as one of the most fun experiences of her life. Her version of Cammy, a bazooka-wielding soldier, shared the screen with Jean-Claude Van Damme and Raúl Juliá. Critics tore that film apart. The 2009 follow-up, Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, also flopped.
The account rests on Peck’s telling alone. The interview offered no detail on who approached Minogue or how far talks went. Her absence leaves the new film without a direct link to its predecessor. Mel Jarnson plays Cammy this time under director Kitao Sakurai, and Peck said he is still working to arrange a photo meeting between Jarnson and Minogue.
The film marks Peck’s feature debut. The country singer reached the screen after a Broadway run as the Emcee in Cabaret, which began in 2025. He has said he leaned into queer energy in shaping his take on Vega. Peck left the door open for Minogue to return. “Maybe the sequel, we’ll see,” he said.
