Everything Everywhere All at Once Breaks Lord of the Rings’ 20-Year-Old Record

Everything Everywhere All At Once, one of the most intriguing films of 2022, has broken the record set by The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. The movie has received more awards and nominations during the year, surpassing the iconic fantasy epic's achievement.

IGN’s editors took on the task of verifying the awards granted in the previous year, and their calculations revealed that Everything Everywhere All At Once had dethroned The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King in the category of received awards and nominations.

For two decades, Peter Jackson’s film had been the top scorer with 213 awards and 337 nominations, but Everything Everywhere All At Once surpassed it by a significant margin with 336 awards and 691 nominations (via IGN).

Everything Everywhere All At Once Sets A New Record

Since The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King’s release, numerous award ceremonies have been established. Everything Everywhere All At Once received trophies from 110 organizations, compared to Peter Jackson’s production, which only received awards from 90.

Moreover, out of the 152 awards bodies, only 45 considered both films. The IGN editors therefore narrowed their list down to only those dozens of organizations.

However, the final score remained in favor of Everything Everywhere All At Once, which won 138 to 127 awards, 295 to 189 nominations, and 39 to 37 organizations that granted awards. To make it even clearer, the editors have created a graphic to showcase the comparison.

Everything Everywhere All At Once was one of the most intriguing productions of 2022. The main character’s fantastical journey through parallel worlds helped her come to terms with her life and self-acceptance.

With a budget of $25 million, the film grossed an impressive $94 million at the box office and is now a strong contender for the Oscars.

If you haven’t had a chance to watch the movie yet, it’s available on Amazon Prime Video, where it has been streaming for several months.
