Though the job posting doesn’t directly refer to any specific game title, certain elements within the description and requirements strongly suggest a tie to the God of War series. In particular, the knowledge of systems introduced in God of War Ragnarok and an understanding of the series are among the prerequisites for the role.
Battle Ready: Senior Combat Designer Role
The job posting is for a Senior Combat Designer, a pivotal role whose responsibilities would include the development of the companion combat system.
This feature was introduced for the first time in God of War Ragnarok, enhancing gameplay by allowing players to unlock new skills or change the gear of Kratos’ allies. Moreover, the job applicants are expected to have a keen familiarity with both “God of War” and “God of War Ragnarok”.
Signs Point to a God of War Continuation
While an in-depth knowledge of the series doesn’t necessarily equate to working on the next God of War title, given the triumph of God of War Ragnarok, it seems plausible that Santa Monica Studio would aim to extend the epic tale, especially considering some storylines remain unresolved.
Hints at a potential continuation of Kratos’ journey have surfaced before. Back in March, Tyr’s voice actor dropped a subtle clue about his character’s reappearance in the forthcoming God of War game.
Prior to this, a job advertisement for a Senior Environment Designer at Valkyrie Entertainment – a studio known for its close association with Santa Monica Studio – also suggested the development of a new game.
Although these clues might not amount to an official announcement, the excitement is palpable among the franchise’s fervent fans, who eagerly await the continuation of the gripping God of War saga.
