This game, inspired by the Top Cow comic book of the same name, combines intense first-person shooter action with the assistance of powerful demons. The CEO of Nightdive Studios has confirmed that this remaster is something they are actively considering.
If you’ve never played “The Darkness” or its sequel (which did make its way to PC), you’ve missed out on something special. In both games, players step into the shoes of Jackie Estacado, a character with aspirations of being part of the mafia and a distinct gothic style. Jackie’s life takes a dark turn when his paranoid uncle orchestrates his assassination.
Thanks to an entity called The Darkness, Jackie defies death and gains the extraordinary power it bestows. This includes the ability to wield demonic minions, tear out hearts, and more.
While guns are essential, his newfound abilities give him a unique advantage in battle. And for those who appreciate it, there’s even the option to watch the entire movie “To Kill a Mockingbird” within the game.
A Journey Restricted to Consoles
Unfortunately, “The Darkness,” developed by Starbreeze Studios and released in 2007, only made its way to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Despite its popularity, with an equally well-received sequel in 2012, it never extended to other platforms.
A recent tweet by Nightdive CEO Stephen Kick has sparked enthusiasm among fans. Kick confirmed that “The Darkness” is indeed on the list for potential remastering. However, being on the list doesn’t automatically guarantee rights for the remaster.
Although Nightdive Studios has a strong history of delivering quality remasters, an official announcement is still needed to confirm the project.
