The upcoming patch for Bethesda’s space exploration game, Starfield, is set to bring a significant enhancement to the gaming experience, particularly for players using Nvidia graphics cards.

The patch, which is scheduled to enter Steam Beta in the coming week, will introduce native support for Nvidia’s Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) technology.

DLSS is a groundbreaking feature that utilizes artificial intelligence and machine learning to produce images that look like a high-resolution without the heavy computational load. This means players with Nvidia graphics cards will be able to enjoy Starfield with improved graphics performance and visual fidelity.

Bethesda has been actively working on post-launch updates to enhance the game’s performance and add new features. This upcoming patch is a part of that effort, and it will be available to Steam users first before a broader rollout to all PC players and Xbox Series X/S users.

We've been hard at work on @StarfieldGame updates and will be putting our next one into Steam Beta next week.

This update will feature Nvidia DLSS support with frame generation, display and HDR controls for supported systems, and other optimizations and improvements. You'll be…

— Bethesda Game Studios (@BethesdaStudios) November 1, 2023

The patch will not only add DLSS support but also bring display and HDR controls for supported systems, along with various other optimizations and improvements.

The addition of DLSS has been a highly requested feature from the Starfield gaming community. Prior to this official support, some modders took it upon themselves to integrate DLSS into the game.

However, this led to controversy when one modder decided to put a more advanced DLSS 3 mod behind a paywall, charging $5 a month on Patreon for access.

Bethesda’s decision to add official DLSS support to Starfield is a significant move, especially considering the initial ambiguity around whether the game would support DLSS at launch.

This was due to AMD being announced as the “exclusive PC partner for Starfield.” At launch, Starfield only supported two upscaling options: FSR 2 and FidelityFX Contrast Adaptive Sharpening (CAS).

Despite these initial limitations, Starfield has achieved remarkable success, attracting 10 million players within just three weeks of its release, making it the biggest launch in Bethesda Game Studios’ history.

This success has likely contributed to Microsoft’s strong financial performance, with Xbox content and services reporting a 13% revenue increase over the previous quarter.

In a separate announcement, Bethesda also revealed plans to add support for FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 in a future update, further enhancing the game’s performance and visual quality.
