In a move set to thrill fans of the franchise, “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3” is opening its doors to gamers with a free multiplayer trial, perfectly timed with the much-anticipated launch of Season 2. This weekend, players will have the opportunity to dive into the action-packed world of “Modern Warfare 3” without spending a dime, offering a taste of what the latest season has in store.

Season 2 is slated to begin today, injecting new life into the game with the introduction of three new 6v6 maps: Stash House, Vista, and Departures. Each map offers a unique layout designed to challenge and excite players.

Stash House, with its compact size, promises intense close-quarters combat, while the medium-sized Vista and Departures maps provide more room for strategic play and exploration. Activision has provided previews of these new arenas, setting the stage for the battles ahead.

In conjunction with the Season 2 kickoff, the free multiplayer trial running from February 8th to 12th allows players to explore not only the brand new Stash House map but also eight other fan-favorite maps. This trial spans several game modes, including Team Deathmatch, Hardpoint, Kill Confirmed, Domination, and Team Gun Game, ensuring a variety of experiences for all types of players.

Additionally, the trial grants access to the “Modern Warfare Zombies” mode, which continues to expand the narrative of The Dark Aether with new challenges and storylines throughout Season 2. This inclusion offers a broader taste of the game’s offerings, catering to both competitive multiplayer enthusiasts and those drawn to the game’s cooperative, story-driven content.

In related news, the “Call of Duty” community was recently abuzz with leaked footage of a canceled sci-fi “Call of Duty” game, initially in development by Neversoft, the studio behind the “Tony Hawk” series. This glimpse into what could have been offers an intriguing look at the alternate directions the franchise might have explored.

Meanwhile, “Modern Warfare 3” developer Sledgehammer Games has faced significant layoffs, with an estimated 30 percent of its workforce, translating to between 150 to 300 employees, affected.

These layoffs are part of a larger wave of job cuts by parent company Microsoft, impacting around 1,900 individuals across various departments. This shakeup within Sledgehammer Games raises questions about the future of “Call of Duty” development and the impact on upcoming titles.

As “Modern Warfare 3” gears up for its Season 2 launch, the free multiplayer trial stands as an open invitation for gamers to experience the latest that the game has to offer. Whether you’re a seasoned veteran of the series or a curious newcomer, this weekend presents a perfect opportunity to jump into the fray.
