The critically acclaimed series Black Mirror and The Last of Us were among the big winners at the 2024 BAFTA Television Craft Awards, which celebrated the best behind-the-scenes talent in UK television over the past year. The craft prizes were handed out on Sunday at a central London ceremony.

Black Mirror’s “Demon 79” episode scored two major wins – Charlie Brooker and Bisha K. Ali took home the Drama Writer award, while Matthew Price was honored for Costume Design on the same installment.

Meanwhile, Peter Hoar won the Director: Fiction award for his work on the popular video game adaptation The Last of Us for HBO and Sky. The post-apocalyptic drama also saw a win for Editor Alex Mackie.

Apple TV+’s post-apocalyptic thriller Silo and Netflix’s hit fantasy series The Witcher were also multiple winners on the night. Silo’s costume designers Charlotte Morris and production designers Gavin Bocquet and Amanda Bernstein all took home trophies. The Witcher scored for Matthew Collinge’s Sound team as well as the Special, Visual & Graphic Effects artistry of Tim Crosbie, Caimin Bourne, and others.

In the Factual categories, highlights included Peter Beard and Bruce Fletcher winning Director for the documentary Otto Baxter: Not a F***ing Horror Story, while the Editing Team for Once Upon a Time in Northern Ireland scored a prize. Simon Russell’s evocative score for that series also won Original Music: Factual.

On the emerging talent front, Fred Scott won for directing the Factual entry London Bridge: Facing Terror, with writer Kat Sadler honored in Fiction for the comedy Such Brave Girls.

The ceremony also recognized the tremendous craft behind some of the year’s biggest live televised events, with the Coronation of King Charles III and the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 both winning for their Entertainment Craft Teams and Direction.

As the prestigious BAFTA TV Awards approach in May, the Craft Awards honored the behind-the-scenes artists and creatives whose contributions are so vital to delivering excellent television across genres. With surprises, returning champions, and rising stars all celebrated, the event once again showcased the exceptional talent flourishing in British TV production.
